Dallas Athletics 'Hall of Fame' baseball coach Al Ogletree donates autobiography "Take Two, Hit to Right and Slide Against the Wind"
IRVING, Texas - Legendary University of Dallas Athletics Hall of Fame baseball coach Al Ogletree has presented the University of Dallas library and athletics department with copies of his autobiography "Take Two, Hit to Right and Slide Against the Wind."
Published in 2008, the 262-page autobiography is an account of Coach Ogletree's life in baseball and includes a substantial account of his tenure at the University of Dallas.
Coach Ogletree played a prominent role at Dallas, helping start intercollegiate athletics at the university, while coaching the baseball and basketball teams from 1955-65.
A member of the first class (1998) inducted into the University of Dallas Athletics Hall of Fame, Coach Ogletree's No. 44 was retired on Saturday, Nov. 5, at the second-ever Dallas Baseball Alumni Game.
During the 2011 Alumni Game's pregame ceremony, several members of Coach Ogletree's teams were honored as well. Gary Morris (1961-64), Troy Miller (1961-63) and Rufe Brewton (1957-59) were all honored as they stood on the infield grass. Miller and Brewton both spoke about Coach Ogletree's on-and-off the field character.
Those interested in picking-up a copy of the fully-entitled "Take Two, Hit to Right and Slide Against the Wind: A Lifetime of Memories of the Pinstripe Teams of Coach Al; A Story of My Life." should contact athletics director Dick Strockbine (dick@udallas.edu) or head baseball coach Fraser Holmes (fholmes@udallas.edu) for further information.
