Men's Lacrosse celebrates first win in school history with workmanlike effort against Millsaps College (Miss.)
IRVING, Texas - The University of Dallas men's lacrosse team (1-5) notched their first win in program history when they defeated Millsaps College (Miss.), 10-4, on home turf Saturday afternoon. Crusader goalie Garrett Kochner (Florissant, Mo./Hazelwood West H.S.) and the defense held Millsaps to one goal through the first three quarters while the offense matched their previous season high of 10 goals.
Offensively, freshman attack Tony Lemos (Dana Point, Calif./JSerra H.S.) turned in another six goal performance, on 10 shots on net, to lead Dallas. Freshman attack Brien Lank (Mission Viejo, Calif./JSerra H.S.) also had a big game, breaking out for his first, second, and third goals of the season, including two in the first quarter. Lank was not alone in the first goal column as freshman midfielder Joe Hrbacek (St. Paul, Minn./Trinity School at River Ridge) snuck one past the Majors' goaltender late in the third to notch his first of the year. Lemos, along with freshman Joey Mullen (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood H.S.) and sophomore Stephen Joseph (Orange County, Calif./JSerra H.S.) each had assists.
Defensively, goalie Garrett Kochner clamped down to stop 11 out of 15 shots on net in 60:00 minutes of play. Junior midfielder Chris Kerner (Stevensville, Md.) dominated the faceoff circle, winning 16 of 17 draws, as well as picking up a team high seven ground balls. Senior midfielder Andrew Kent (Keller, Texas/Bethesda Christian H.S.) swallowed up five ground balls, while freshman defender Mike Franscell (Mission Viejo, Calif./JSerra H.S.) and freshman midfielder John Owen (Mount Jackson, Va.) combined for seven more en route to a 26 - 9 ground ball advantage over the Majors.
The Crusaders will resume play on Monday, March 14, as Concordia University (WI) rolls into town. First faceoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at Crusader Field.
