IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas baseball team scored nine runs in the seventh inning to back a 12-4 victory on Friday afternoon versus Mississippi University for Women. This is the first win of the 2018 season for the Crusaders and opened a four-game series on a positive note.

The bats stayed hot by matching a season-high and posting 10 hits. UD's pitching gave up a season-low four runs, and was led by Tyler Montemayor's (Boerne, Texas) four innings of relief work that kept a narrow lead at the time.

Mark Peterson (Cincinnati, Ohio) got Dallas on the board in the first inning with a double to score Nathan Patton (McKinney, Texas). The Crusaders have scored first in all four games this season – each in the first frame.

After the Owls evened things in the fourth, Montemayor relieved starting pitcher Abraham Griesbauer (Troy, Mo.) with runners on the corners and none out. The freshman fanned the side and finished with six strikeouts in an eventual winning decision.

Dallas took the lead with two in the fifth, as Enrique Vigil (San Antonio, Texas) and Josh Abalos (McKinney, Texas) singled in unearned runs. The lone error for the Owls occurred that inning.

Walks proved to be the undoing of Mississippi University for Women's pitching staff, as seven-of-eight in the game came in Dallas' huge seventh inning.

Abalos, Peterson, and Zachary Taylor (Humble, Texas) posted multi-hit games with two apiece. Jordan Stickler (Grand Rapids, Mich.) – who reached twice via walks to keep his on-base streak alive at 35 – drove in two, walked twice, and scored once. Abalos, Patton, and Vigil all contributed two ribbies.

Dylan Barr (Aurora, Colo.) made his pitching debut in the eighth, as he finished the game to secure UD's first triumph.

Dallas continues series with a doubleheader on Saturday starting at noon.
