SEGUIN, Texas – The University of Dallas women's soccer team was edged 1-0 at Texas Lutheran University on Sunday afternoon in the final regular season match. A goal by TLU (9-5-3, 8-4-2 SCAC) in the second half proved to be the difference.
The Bulldogs held a 27-4 advantage in shot attempts. Dallas (3-10-3, 2-8-2 SCAC) were able to withstand the large number of shots again for most of the match. Olivia Severson (La Crosse, Wis.) played a complete 90 minutes and garnered 10 saves. The junior goalie has secured double-digit totals for saves in four matches this season, and three of the last four games. This includes the earlier match to the Bulldogs in Irving.
Monica O'Donnell (Lincoln, Neb.) took one of the first shots of the game by both sides, and early during the 4th minute. TLU's keeper, Stephanie Barrientos, made one-of-two saves that she needed to preserve the clean sheet.
O'Donnell led Dallas with two shots, while Maddie Rodriguez (San Antonio, Texas) and Elisa Duran (Pomona, Calif.) took the other shots. Rodriguez placed her look on frame late in the second half almost right after the opposition had gone ahead.
Brittany Casarez notched the game-winner for the Bulldogs at the 74:27 minute mark. Bailey Nimtz made the assist as Casarez shot to the left side of the net.
Severson did hold things down the rest of the way with three more saves, but only the Rodriguez shot was all Dallas' offense could muster for an equalizer.
Dallas did secure the sixth seed in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Tournament, which is the first time the team has made it since hosting in 2015. The tournament was recently moved to San Antonio, Texas, to be hosted by Trinity University on November 2-4. The Crusaders will play the third-seeded Texas Lutheran University in a rematch on Friday around 1 p.m.
